Studio monitors that let you hear your music with total accuracy.

About Genelec

Genelec has been building studio monitors in Iisalmi, Finland since 1978. Their active monitors are known for neutral frequency response and consistent imaging across the entire product line. The company designs everything in-house, from waveguides to amplifiers, and manufactures their own drivers. Genelec's SAM (Smart Active Monitoring) technology uses GLM software to calibrate monitors to your room's acoustics, compensating for reflections and bass buildup. Their 8000 Series and The Ones range are reference standards in mixing and mastering studios worldwide. Genelec also pioneered the use of die-cast aluminum enclosures in monitor design, reducing cabinet resonance and improving durability.

Genelec - Studio Monitor Technology Explained

The Ones Series

The Ones are Genelec's flagship three-way coaxial monitors. The 8331, 8341, and 8351 models place the midrange driver and tweeter on the same axis, creating a point source that maintains phase coherence off-axis. This design gives you a wider sweet spot and more accurate stereo imaging when you move around the room. All three models include SAM technology and work with the GLM calibration system. The 8351 is the largest, delivering full-range response down to 32 Hz without a subwoofer. These monitors are used for critical mixing, mastering, and immersive audio work.

8000 Series

The 8000 Series covers everything from compact nearfields to large mains. The 8030 and 8040 are two-way designs suited for smaller rooms and desktop setups. The 8050 steps up in size and low-frequency extension for mid-sized control rooms. All 8000 Series monitors use Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) to shape dispersion and minimize early reflections. SAM models include room correction via GLM software. Non-SAM versions offer manual DIP switches for basic room compensation. The series shares the same tonal balance, so you can mix on 8030s and reference on 8050s without relearning your monitors.

Subwoofers and Room Calibration

Genelec subwoofers integrate with their monitors to extend low-frequency response and reduce distortion in the mains. The 7000 Series subs include models like the 7350, 7360, and 7370, each designed for different room sizes and SPL requirements. When paired with SAM monitors and GLM software, the system automatically manages crossover points and phase alignment. GLM also handles bass management for stereo and multichannel setups, compensating for room modes and boundary effects. The result is flatter bass response and more accurate translation to other playback systems.
