Clamps & Rigging: What to Know

Rigging hardware is what keeps your lighting, speakers, and truss systems secure overhead. This category covers the mounting and safety gear used in live production, installations, and mobile DJ setups. Clamps attach fixtures to truss or pipe. Couplers join truss sections. Safety cables provide backup attachment in case primary mounting fails. You'll also find hanging hardware, brackets, and specialty adapters for specific mounting scenarios. This gear is used by mobile DJs, production companies, venue installers, and anyone running overhead lighting or audio systems.

What to Look For

Start with load ratings. Every clamp and coupler has a safe working load (SWL) or weight limit. Match this to the combined weight of your fixtures, truss, and any additional hardware. For clamps, check the pipe diameter compatibility, most work with 48-50mm truss, but some fixtures need smaller or larger sizes. Couplers come in different connection types: conical for quick assembly, bolt-on for permanent installs, half couplers for attaching to existing pipe. Safety cables are rated by breaking strength, typically 60-100 lbs for lighting fixtures. Always use a safety cable as secondary attachment, even if the primary mount feels solid. Material matters: aluminum is lighter for mobile rigs, steel handles heavier loads. Check thread types if you're mixing brands, M10, M12, and 5/8" bolts are common but not interchangeable.
