Collection: Lee Oskar

Diatonic harmonicas made by Tombo.

About Lee Oskar

Lee Oskar harmonicas are designed by Lee Oskar, the harmonica player best known as a founding member of War, and made by Tombo in Japan. Each one is a 10-hole diatonic with brass reed plates screwed to a plastic comb and stainless steel cover plates. The reed plates, combs and cover plates are interchangeable, so a worn harp can be rebuilt instead of replaced.

Four Tunings

The Major Diatonic is the standard tuning for blues, rock, country, folk and jazz, from Low C up to High G. The Natural Minor gives a bluesy, soulful minor sound in 2nd position for minor blues, rock, reggae, pop and jazz. The Harmonic Minor is tuned to the harmonic minor scale for folk, ethnic, gypsy and Eastern European music. The Melody Maker changes three notes of the Major Diatonic, so major scale melodies in 2nd position play without bending.

Reed Plates and Special Editions

Replacement reed plates come in the same keys as the harmonicas. Fitting a set takes three screws and two nuts and bolts, and brings a harp back for about half the cost of a new one. The LowRider, made for the 50th anniversary of War's "Low Rider", has a wider, more open cover plate, and the Mick Jagger Edition 2 is built to the specifications Mick Jagger has used throughout his career.
