Description
The Roland JD-08 is a compact recreation of the legendary JD-800 synthesizer, combining the original's 108 waveforms and four-tone sound architecture with modern enhancements like 128-voice polyphony and a two-part polyphonic sequencer. Built on Roland's advanced modeling technology, the JD-08 delivers the intricate, evolving textures that made the JD-800 a staple of electronic music production throughout the 1990s and beyond.
Four-Tone Sound Architecture
The original JD-800 broke from the preset-driven digital synths of its era by putting dozens of sliders and knobs directly on the front panel. The JD-08 faithfully recreates that hands-on workflow in the compact Boutique format. Four tone sliders let you mix and shape layered sounds in real time, while dedicated sections for LFO, WG (wave generator), TVF (time-variant filter), and TVA (time-variant amplifier) give you direct access to every parameter of the synthesis engine.
Polyphony jumps from the original's 6 voices to 128, with effective polyphony of 32 notes when using all four tones per patch. The JD-08 is also bi-timbral, letting you run two patches simultaneously. A two-part polyphonic step sequencer with 64 steps and 8 notes per part, along with motion recording and an onboard arpeggiator, bring animated movement to your performances.
