Description
The Dynaudio Acoustics M4 MkII is a 4-way main monitor for large music recording and mixing rooms. Four 300 mm MSP woofers carry the bass, two 170 mm MSP drivers cover the low mids, and an Esotar soft dome and the Esotar 3 tweeter handle the upper mids and highs. A stereo pair reaches 130 dB at 2 meters with distortion held to 1% at 90 dB.
Drivers and Crossover
The woofers use 100 mm ferrofluid-cooled voice coils and run as two pairs, each pair on its own amplifier channel. The low-mid drivers have 75 mm voice coils and neodymium magnets, and both Esotar units use double-magnet motors. External crossovers split the signal at 250 Hz and 2 kHz, and a high-power passive network in the cabinet joins the upper mid and tweeter at 5 kHz.
Amplification and Installation
The M4 MkII has no built-in amplifiers. Each speaker takes four channels of 500 to 1,000 W, and Dynaudio recommends its DA40/80 DSP or DCA800/1400 amplifiers. The cabinet is usually flush-mounted in a wall, which adds low-frequency output, and it can also stand free. Dynaudio gives 2 to 6 meters as the listening distance and recommends that a qualified engineer carry out the final alignment.
