Drumsticks, brushes and mallets.

About Vater Percussion

Vater Percussion has been manufacturing drumsticks, mallets, and brushes in Massachusetts since 1956. What started as a family operation making timpani mallets for the Boston Symphony Orchestra has grown into one of the most respected names in percussion accessories. Vater builds everything in-house, controlling every step from wood selection to final pairing. Their sticks are known for consistent weight matching and dense hickory that holds up to heavy playing. The Goodwood series uses sustainable American hickory, and their marching line covers everything from high school drumlines to DCI corps.

Goodwood Drumsticks

The Goodwood series is Vater's core drumstick line, made from sustainably harvested American hickory. You get classic sizes like 5A, 5B, 7A, and 2B in both wood and nylon tip options. The wood tips give you warmer cymbal tones and more articulation on ride bells. Nylon tips are brighter and last longer if you play rimshots regularly. Vater pairs each set by weight and pitch, so both sticks feel identical in your hands. The Goodwood Fusion and Rock models adjust length and taper for specific playing styles without jumping to custom shop pricing.

Marching Percussion

Vater's marching line includes snare sticks, bass drum mallets, and tenor mallets designed for outdoor performance and high-volume playing. The MV series snare sticks range from the lighter MV4 to the heavier MV20, giving you options for indoor concert work or stadium shows. Bass drum mallets are sized by drum diameter, from the MV-B1 for 16-18" drums up to the MV-B5 for 30" and larger. You can choose between hard felt for punch and puff fleece for a softer attack. Tenor mallets come in Lexan, nylon, and hard felt heads depending on the articulation you need.

Concert Ensemble Mallets

The Concert Ensemble series covers marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone mallets for orchestral and chamber work. Marimba mallets run from soft (CEM10S) to hard (CEM51H), letting you match the mallet to the register and dynamic you're playing. Vibraphone mallets include medium and medium-hard options for jazz and classical contexts. Xylophone and bell mallets range from soft rubber to extra-hard brass, giving you everything from warm melodic lines to cutting bell parts. Each model uses specific core materials and yarn wraps to control tone and articulation.
