About IndigiSounds

IndigiSounds is a Trinidad and Tobago-based sample library developer founded in 2013 by David Chow and Johann Chuckaree. They specialize in sampled virtual instruments of indigenous Caribbean sounds: steelpans, Trinidadian percussion, soca rhythms, and Indo-Caribbean instruments for Native Instruments Kontakt. IndigiSounds was the first company to sample the full steelpan family note by note, working directly with real Trinidadian ensembles like the Laventille Rhythm Section and Malick Tassa Drummers. Their steelpan library was produced in collaboration with Native Instruments, and their samples have been used on commercial releases including Bunji Garlin's 2015 Trinidad Carnival track "Renegade."

Steelpan Libraries

The IndigiSounds Trinidad Steelpans library covers the complete steelpan family with note-by-note sampling. You get tenor pan, double seconds, double tenors, cello pans, and bass pans recorded in detail. Co-founder Johann Chuckaree is a professional pannist, and that performance knowledge shows in the articulations and velocity layers. These are not generic world percussion samples. They capture the attack, sustain, and overtones of real steelpan instruments tuned and played by people who perform this music professionally. The library runs in Kontakt and integrates into any DAW workflow.

Soca and Trinidadian Percussion

The Laventille Rhythm Section library samples a full Trinidadian percussion ensemble: iron, brake drum, cowbell, shak-shak, and more. The Soca Starter Pack Vol 1 gives you loops, one-shots, and construction kits built from these same sessions. These libraries are designed for soca production, but the sounds work in any genre that needs authentic Caribbean percussion. The recordings were done with the actual Laventille Rhythm Section, a working ensemble in Trinidad. You're hearing real players, not programmed approximations.

Indo-Caribbean Instruments

The Chutney and Tassa Starter Pack samples Indo-Caribbean instruments used in chutney and chutney soca: dholak, dhantal, tassa drums. This is a niche sound set that mainstream sample developers don't cover. IndigiSounds recorded these instruments with Malick Tassa Drummers, a professional group that performs at weddings, festivals, and cultural events across Trinidad. The library includes loops and one-shots, so you can build rhythms from scratch or drop in pre-arranged patterns. It's a practical toolkit for producers working in or sampling from Indo-Caribbean music traditions.
