Akai Professional, a brand of inMusic Brands based in Cumberland, Rhode Island, brought the hardware MPC workflow to the desktop with its software line. The MPC 2 and MPC 3 production environments run standalone or load as VST/AU/AAX plugins inside your existing DAW. MPC Beats offers a free entry point with 8 MIDI tracks and 2 stereo audio tracks, upgradeable to the full 128-track engine. The software ships with instrument and effect plugins built by AIR Music Technology, the German team behind much of Avid Pro Tools' effects core. You get the MPC sequencer, sampling engine, and pad workflow without the hardware.

MPC Production Software

MPC 3 is the current flagship, succeeding MPC 2 with an updated interface and expanded feature set. Both versions double as plugin instruments inside third-party DAWs, so you can route MPC sequences and samples into your main session. MPC Beats is the free tier, capped at 8 MIDI and 2 audio tracks but otherwise running the same engine. All three share the same plugin architecture and can load MPC-exclusive instruments like TubeSynth, Bassline, Electric, and DrumSynth.
