About AIR Music Technology

AIR Music Technology GmbH, based in Bremen, Germany, descends from Wizoo Sound Design, a pioneering virtual instrument developer founded in 1997 by Peter Gorges, Steinberg co-founder Manfred Rürup, and film composer Hans Zimmer. After Avid acquired Wizoo in 2005 and reorganized it as Advanced Instrument Research to build the Creative Collection and effects bundled with Pro Tools, inMusic brought AIR into its family in 2012. Today AIR develops virtual instruments and creative effects for VST, AU, and AAX hosts. Many of their instruments also power the sound engines inside Akai MPC hardware, bridging the plugin and hardware worlds. Their catalog spans analogue-modelled synths like Vacuum Pro, the additive synthesis engine Loom II, and workhorse ROMplers and drum instruments used in studios worldwide.

Analogue-Modelled Synthesizers

Vacuum and Vacuum Pro model the sound of classic analogue synths with tube saturation, multimode filters, and deep modulation routing. Vacuum Pro adds polyphonic aftertouch, MPE support, and expanded effects. The Dystopian World expansion pack brings darker, industrial presets. These synths suit producers chasing vintage warmth without the maintenance of actual hardware. The tube-drive circuit adds grit that sits well in dense mixes, and the preset library covers bass, leads, pads, and sound design.

Additive and Sample-Based Instruments

Loom II is an additive synthesizer that builds complex timbres from harmonic partials. It excels at evolving pads, metallic textures, and sounds that morph over time. Structure 2 is a sample engine with deep editing, convolution reverb, and support for multiple formats. Xpand!2 is a fast-loading multitimbral workstation with over 2,500 presets spanning keys, strings, drums, and synths. Mini Grand delivers a sampled acoustic piano, and DB-33 models a tonewheel organ with drawbars and rotary speaker emulation. These instruments handle bread-and-butter session work and experimental sound design alike.

Drum and Loop Production

Strike 2 combines sample playback, synthesis, and pattern sequencing in a single drum production environment. Transfuser 2 is a loop-mangling instrument that slices, rearranges, and synthesizes audio in real time. Both integrate with hardware controllers and suit beat-makers who want hands-on control over their grooves. The Creative FX Collection and Creative FX Collection Plus bundle reverbs, delays, modulation, and distortion effects that work across any DAW.
