Each drum was then treated and mixed using a hybrid of vintage and modern techniques:

• Tascam 414 cassette decks for gritty, intimate tone
• MPC60 and SP-1200 for crunchy 12-bit character
• Classic tube EQs and spring reverbs for rich ambiance

The Sound of Tape

Tape isn't just a recording medium—it's an instrument. With Drift, every drum was recorded or processed through multiple generations of analog tape to infuse color, compression, and character.

We used:

• Studer A800 for full-bandwidth warmth
• Ampex ATR-102 for pristine tape clarity
• Tascam 4-tracks for crunchy lo-fi artifacts
• Handheld dictaphones for whispered intimacy and nostalgic hiss

Each piece of gear contributed its own tonal fingerprint, offering a tape-saturated soundstage that brings your drums to life with emotional resonance and analog vibe.

Cut to 12" Vinyl

In a world of digital precision, Drift brings back the soul of physical sound. We cut over 1,300 samples to 12" vinyl using a Neumann VMS-70 cutting lathe, resampling them to capture the iconic surface noise, groove warp, and warm filtering of wax-based music.

This process gave these samples a depth and movement impossible to fake—perfect for crafting tracks that feel real, lived-in, and undeniably human. The crackle, hiss, and analog compression bring a cinematic, emotional texture to your production.
