The Warm Audio WA-87jr SE (Black) is a streamlined, cardioid-only version of the WA-87jr, delivering the classic 87-style tone in a simplified package. It features a gold-sputtered, single-backplate K87-style capsule, the same capsule family used in the flagship WA-87 R2, with a fully discrete, transformerless signal path. The fixed cardioid pattern provides focused, detailed pickup with clean off-axis rejection, making it well suited for vocals, acoustic instruments, podcasting, and streaming. This is the black finish version.
The single-backplate capsule design simplifies the electronics compared to the dual-backplate version in the multi-pattern WA-87jr, focusing the signal path entirely on cardioid performance. With 9 dBA self-noise and 116 dBA dynamic range, the WA-87jr SE captures quiet vocal nuances while handling dynamic swings cleanly. Running on standard 48V phantom power with no external supply needed, the SE is a straightforward setup for home studios, podcast booths, and streaming desks where a single polar pattern covers the primary use case.
