Warm Audio WA-87jr Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Black)

The Warm Audio WA-87jr (Black) is a large-diaphragm, transformerless FET condenser microphone that captures the detailed, polished tone of classic 87-style studio microphones. It features a gold-sputtered, dual-backplate K87-style capsule, the same capsule found in the flagship WA-87 R2, with a fully discrete signal path. Three switchable polar patterns (cardioid, figure-8, omnidirectional), a -10 dB pad, and an 80 Hz high-pass filter provide flexibility for vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, drums, podcasting, and streaming. This is the black finish version.

The transformerless output stage delivers a clean, transparent signal that lets the K87-style capsule character come through without additional coloration. With 9 dBA self-noise and 116 dBA dynamic range, the WA-87jr handles the wide dynamic swings of vocal performances and acoustic instruments with clarity. The 80 Hz high-pass filter reduces low-frequency rumble from room noise, and the -10 dB pad extends SPL handling to 135 dB for louder sources like drum kits and guitar cabinets. The dual-backplate capsule provides three polar patterns for different recording setups, from focused cardioid for solo vocals to figure-8 for face-to-face interviews.
