Description
The Warm Audio WA273-EQ is a dual-channel, Class A microphone preamplifier with inductor-based 3-band equalizer, recreating the complete 1073-style British console channel strip. With 80 dB of gain, custom Carnhill UK transformers, and Blore Edwards UK dual-concentric EQ potentiometers, the WA273-EQ delivers both the preamp warmth and the musical EQ shaping of the original in a 2U rack format.
3-Band Inductor EQ
Each channel features a 3-band inductor-based equalizer with Blore Edwards dual-concentric switch potentiometers manufactured in the UK:
- Low band boost/cut: 35, 60, 110, 220 Hz
- Mid band boost/cut: 360, 700, 1600, 3200, 4800, 7200 Hz
- High band boost/cut: 10, 12, 16 kHz
The high band includes additional frequency points beyond the vintage 1073 for greater flexibility.
Preamp Section
Each channel features a hand-wired, fully discrete Class A signal path with custom Carnhill UK input and output transformers. The 22-position resistor-stepped gain switch provides 80 dB of range, while the Tone button toggles input transformer impedance for tonal variation. A four-position inductor-based high-pass filter at 50, 80, 160, and 300 Hz handles low-frequency cleanup. Front and rear XLR mic inputs, TRS line input, TS instrument input, and balanced send/return inserts provide flexible connectivity, with 48V phantom power, polarity inversion, and ground lift per channel.
