Description
The Warm Audio WA-8000 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone designed to capture the open, airy, hi-fi sound that defined countless platinum recordings from the early 1990s onward. It features a custom all-brass K67-inspired capsule, a NOS (New Old Stock) 6AU6 vacuum tube, and a Lundahl Sweden transformer. A custom-designed external heat sink reduces internal operating temperature for lower self-noise and distortion. With cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns, the WA-8000 excels on vocals, voiceover, and room miking across R&B, hip-hop, pop, and any genre demanding polished detail.
The 6AU6 is a 7-pin miniature sharp-cutoff pentode originally designed in the 1940s for high-frequency wideband applications, later adopted in microphones and amplifiers for its power and efficiency within its optimal operating temperature range. The WA-8000's external heat sink assembly draws heat away from the tube and electronics, allowing the tube to run cooler for reduced self-noise and extended tube life. This cooling system is a faithful recreation of the original 800-style design.
The Lundahl Sweden transformer plays a central role in the WA-8000's open top-end response and expansive soundstage, delivering the detail and clarity that listeners associate with the original 800-style microphone. Paired with the custom K67-inspired all-brass capsule and the 5-meter Gotham GAC-7 cable from Switzerland, the WA-8000 combines ultra-high sensitivity with silky-smooth high frequencies.
