Warm Audio WA-19 Dynamic Studio Microphone (Nickel)

The Warm Audio WA-19 is a dynamic cardioid studio microphone that recreates the AKG D19, one of the most favored studio and live dynamic mics of the 1960s. Featuring a custom, hand-assembled brass humbucking capsule, the WA-19 combines the noise rejection and rugged construction of a dynamic with top-end clarity more commonly associated with condenser microphones.

Design

The WA-19's pencil-style body includes ventilated side slots that reduce proximity effect, making it easy to position close to loud sources without boomy bass buildup. A variable acoustic high-pass filter ring on the body cuts up to 10 dB at 50 Hz, tightening the tone and adding upper-midrange emphasis without electronic phase shift. The humbucking coil design provides strong off-axis rejection, particularly in the bass and lower midrange, making it well suited for snare, overheads, acoustic guitar, vocals, and guitar cabs.

Applications

With a 30 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response and 145 dB max SPL, the WA-19 handles everything from close-miked snare and toms to guitar amplifiers and brass instruments. The compact pencil form factor and lightweight 200 g body allow flexible placement in tight spaces where larger dynamics would not fit, and the included mic clip and protective pouch make it ready for both studio and live use.
