Description
The Warm Audio EQP-WA is a single-channel tube equalizer based on the classic Pultec EQP-1A, featuring CineMag USA transformers, a CineMag inductor EQ section, and premium Tung-Sol 12AX7 and 12AU7 vacuum tubes. Its simultaneous boost-and-cut capability on the same frequency band produces the signature Pultec curve that has shaped countless recordings.
EQ Bands
With expanded frequency selections compared to the vintage original, the EQP-WA offers five additional frequency points for greater flexibility:
- Low frequency boost: 20, 30, 60, 100, 200, 400, 800 Hz (up to 12 dB)
- Low frequency cut: 20, 30, 60, 100, 200, 400, 800 Hz (up to 18 dB)
- High frequency boost: 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 16 kHz (up to 18 dB)
- High frequency cut: 3, 4, 5, 10, 20 kHz (up to 14 dB)
Boost and cut controls can be used simultaneously on any frequency to create phase-based resonance curves. The EQ section is bypassable while the signal still passes through the tubes and transformers for coloration.
Tube Circuit and Signal Path
The fully discrete signal path runs through a Tung-Sol 12AX7 gain stage and a 12AU7 output stage, with CineMag USA transformers on both input and output. Even with the EQ section bypassed, the signal passes through the tubes and transformers, allowing the EQP-WA to act as a standalone coloration device for adding harmonic richness to tracked or mixed audio. The voltage-switchable power supply (115/230V) provides stable current to maintain consistent tube operating points at any mains voltage.
