Description
The Waldorf Protein is a compact 8-voice polyphonic wavetable synthesizer that revisits Microwave 1 ASIC-style oscillators and pairs them with modern sequencing and performance tools. At roughly a small desktop footprint, it is meant as an affordable, portable wavetable voice rather than a full Iridium workstation.
Wavetable core
The oscillator design looks back to Waldorf's early Microwave ASIC wavetable generation, the brittle and evolving digital tones that defined that era, then adds contemporary controls so the instrument does not feel like a museum piece.
Modern extras
Iridium-heritage features include a sophisticated arpeggiator, step sequencer, chord mode, effects, and Flavour-style micro-variation ideas shared with newer Waldorf instruments. Hands-on knobs keep patching fast despite the small panel.
