Description
The Universal Audio Volt 2 Gen 2 is a 2-in/4-out USB audio interface with two Tone Shaping mic preamps, a full-color Smart Display and Auto-Gain. It suits duets, interviews and stereo sources, and two front-panel Hi-Z inputs take a pair of guitars or a stereo keyboard. Conversion runs at up to 32-bit/192 kHz, and USB bus power from a Mac, Windows PC, iPad or iPhone keeps it portable.
Tone Shaping and Smart Display
Each preamp has its own Tone setting. Warmth takes its tube character from the UA 610 preamp, Focus brings the tight transients of American solid-state consoles, and Shine adds the open top end of British Class-A desks. The round Smart Display shows the selected channel with its level and settings, and one encoder sets gain, monitor volume and headphone volume. Auto-Gain sets recording levels on one channel or both, Clip Protection catches peaks during the take, and the two channels link for stereo recording.
Software and Setup
Volt 2 Gen 2 is class compliant on Mac, iPad and iPhone, and Windows uses the UA ASIO driver from the UA Connect app. The UAD Console app and LUNA add session recall and low-latency cue mixes, and built-in loopback blends computer audio with the mics for podcasts and streams. UA includes LUNA Free and a bundle of UAD plug-ins and instruments, among them the Teletronix LA-2A and UA 1176 compressors and the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection. UA sets the bundle contents and can change them.
