Description
The Universal Audio Volt 2 is a 2-in/2-out USB audio interface for recording two sources at once, such as a singer playing guitar or two podcast hosts. Both combo inputs take a microphone, a line source or an instrument, and each has its own Vintage button that adds an analog preamp circuit inspired by UA's 610 tube console preamp. Conversion runs at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and Volt 2 runs on USB bus power.
Two Vintage Preamps
Each channel has its own gain knob, Vintage button and INST button for guitar or bass, with 55 dB of gain on tap. One button sends 48 V phantom power to both XLR inputs for condenser microphones. Vintage mode shapes the sound in the analog stage, so the color is recorded along with the performance.
Monitoring, MIDI and Software
The direct monitoring button has two modes: stereo, with the two inputs panned left and right, and mono, with both inputs centered. MIDI in and out on 5-pin DIN connect a keyboard or drum machine. Volt 2 comes with UA's LUNA recording software and a set of UAD plug-ins for recording and mixing.
