Description
The Universal Audio Volt 176 is a 1-in/2-out USB audio interface with an analog compressor built in. Its single combo input takes a microphone, a line source or an instrument and offers two analog circuits: Vintage preamp mode, inspired by UA's 610 tube preamp, and the 76 Compressor, based on UA's 1176 Limiting Amplifier. It suits a singer, guitarist or podcaster recording one source at a time, with 24-bit/192 kHz conversion and USB bus power.
76 Compressor
The 76 Compressor has three presets, each at a 6:1 ratio. VOC uses the slowest attack with a slow release for smooth vocal compression. GTR pairs a medium attack with a very slow release, which lets guitar and bass transients through and lengthens sustain. FAST has the fastest attack and a fast release for aggressive compression, and all three work on mic, line and instrument sources.
Monitoring, MIDI and Software
Direct monitoring sends the input to the headphone and monitor outputs with no software delay. MIDI in and out on 5-pin DIN connect a controller or drum machine, and Volt 176 comes with UA's LUNA recording software and a set of UAD plug-ins.
