Description
The Universal Audio SD-7 is a hypercardioid dynamic microphone for toms, snare, guitar and bass cabinets, horns and percussion. Its tight pattern and high SPL handling suit loud sources with sharp transients, and you can move it back from the source for more air while keeping good isolation. The SD-7 comes with UA's Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in, which models five classic instrument mics.
Five Instrument Mics in One
Register the SD-7 in the UA Connect app to get Hemisphere, which works with or without UA hardware. The models are RB-160, based on a 1960s ribbon mic, and the dynamics DN-409N, DN-421B, DN-421S and DN-441. Filter, proximity and axis controls let you shape the sound after tracking.
Integrated Standmount
A built-in standmount with angle adjustment holds the SD-7 on a mic stand, with a 5/8" to 3/8" adapter fitted that can be removed for 5/8" stands. Point the top grille at the source. The hypercardioid pattern rejects the most sound at 135 degrees, which helps keep cymbals and hi-hat out of a tom mic. The SD-7 is passive and needs no phantom power.
