Description
The Universal Audio SD-5 is a supercardioid dynamic microphone for kick drums, bass cabinets and other sources with deep low end. Its frequency range reaches down to 20 Hz, it handles very high SPL, and its tight pickup pattern keeps bleed from the rest of the kit down. The SD-5 comes with UA's Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in, which models five classic kick drum mics.
Five Kick Mics in One
Register the SD-5 in the UA Connect app to get Hemisphere, which works with or without UA hardware. The five models are DN-12A, DN-112, DN-6, DN-52 and DN-SUB. DN-SUB recreates the studio trick of wiring a speaker driver in reverse as a sub-bass mic, so you can add that weight to a kick or bass cab with a single microphone. Filter, proximity and axis controls let you shape the sound after tracking.
Integrated Standmount
The SD-5 has a built-in standmount with angle adjustment, so it goes straight onto a mic stand and tilts toward the drum head or speaker. A 5/8" to 3/8" adapter comes fitted and can be removed for 5/8" stands. The SD-5 is a passive dynamic mic and needs no phantom power.
