Description
The Universal Audio SD-3 3-Pack holds three SD-3 compact dynamic microphones in one package, for miking a full set of toms or a whole backline. The SD-3 is a cardioid dynamic mic for snare and tom drums, loud guitar cabinets, brass and woodwinds, with all-metal construction, a hand-selected capsule and high SPL handling. It comes with UA's Hemisphere Mic Collection plug-in, which models five classic instrument mics.
Five Instrument Mics in One
Register an SD-3 in the UA Connect app to get Hemisphere, which works with or without UA hardware. Its five models are DN-4, DN-57, DN-409U, DN-545 and DN-604. Filter, proximity and axis controls let you shape the sound after tracking.
Mounting and Placement
The SD-3 is an end-address mic, so you point the top grille at the source. Its cardioid pattern rejects the most sound directly behind the mic, which helps keep cymbals and hi-hat out of a snare track. The SD-3 is passive and needs no phantom power.
