Description
The Tascam Series 208i is a 20-in/8-out USB audio and MIDI interface designed for professional studio, home, and live recording. Four Ultra-HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamps deliver transparent, ultra-low-noise performance with an EIN of -129 dBu, and dual S/MUX optical inputs provide up to sixteen channels of expansion for a total of twenty inputs. Recording and playback reaches up to 24-bit/192 kHz resolution over USB 2.0.
Preamps and Inputs
The front panel provides four combo XLR/TRS inputs switchable between mic/line and instrument (Hi-Z) modes, each with independent +48V phantom power. Two rear-panel optical S/MUX ports accept up to sixteen additional channels from ADAT- or S/MUX-compatible preamps and converters.
Outputs and Monitoring
Eight balanced 1/4" TRS line outputs enable multi-monitor setups, up to four stereo aux bus pairs, or up to 7.1 surround monitoring. The front panel includes a large Monitor knob, a Monitor Balance control for zero-latency direct monitoring, and two independent headphone outputs. Word clock BNC in/out ensures tight synchronization with external gear.
Built-In DSP and Software Control
A powerful 8-bus DSP mixer with digital reverb, compressor, phase invert, and 4-band EQ processes each channel internally without adding latency. The free Tascam Control software (Settings Panel) manages faders, routing, and effects, letting you route any analog, optical, or USB input to any output.
