Description
The Steve Bailey Active Soapbar System was built for Steve Bailey's signature 6-string fretless bass. A neck and bridge pair of active soapbar pickups works with a Tone Circuit preamp to cover slap grooves, harmonics, rock shows and jazz sessions with a tone that is clear, punchy and refined.
The 2-band Tone Circuit has bass and treble controls, a master volume, a blend control and a frequency contour switch voiced by Steve Bailey to bring out fretless harmonics and boost the mids. Pull up the volume knob to engage it, and preset the contour EQ with two trim pots on the circuit board. The Phase I soapbar pickups fit a 6-string bass with a 466 x 127 (traditional P4) route.
The system installs in any fretless bass with room for 3 control knobs and a 9V battery in the control cavity. Two 9V batteries can be wired in series for more headroom, and battery life is about 1,000 continuous hours per set.
