Description
This Royer Labs bundle combines a matched pair of R-10 passive ribbon microphones with the dBooster2 (R-DB22), a two-channel in-line signal booster that also works as a DI. The R-10s handle more than 160 dB SPL for heavy guitars and close-miked brass, and the dBooster2 adds 12 dB or 20 dB of clean gain to each mic for acoustic instruments, vocals and room miking.
The R-10 Pair
Each R-10 uses the 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon from the R-121, with a three-layer windscreen and an internally shock-mounted transducer. As a figure-8 pair they suit Blumlein and mid-side stereo, spaced pairs on piano and drum overheads. Both mics are hand-built in Burbank, California.
The dBooster2
The dBooster2 has two independent channels, so you can boost both mics, run two DIs, or use one channel for each. In mic mode each channel adds 12 dB or 20 dB of gain through a Class A input, and in DI mode the Hi-Z input takes guitar or bass at 0 dB or 8 dB of gain. It runs on 48 V phantom power, protects the ribbons from phantom power, and its balanced low-impedance outputs can drive an interface directly or feed long cable runs, mic splitters and vintage-style preamps.
