Description
The Royer CS-18 is the replacement cable set for the SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone, the same two-part set the mic comes with. An 18 ft 5-conductor extension cable runs from the SF-12's 5-pin XLR output to a splitter, and the splitter divides into two 3-conductor leads with male 3-pin XLR connectors marked Upper and Lower, one for each ribbon element.
Wiring
The SF-12 uses a standard 5-pin XLR layout: pin 1 is the shared ground, pins 2 and 3 carry the upper ribbon, and pins 4 and 5 carry the lower ribbon. With the mic upright and the Royer logo facing the source, the upper element is the right channel and the lower element is the left, seen from behind the mic. Royer notes that faulty or miswired cables can cause problems with the SF-12, so the matching set is the one to use.
