Description
The Roland A-88MKII is a full-size 88-key MIDI controller built around Roland's PHA-4 Standard keyboard with escapement and ivory-feel surfaces. Constructed with a wood-framed body and premium materials, it provides the same weighted, graded hammer-action playing experience found in Roland's professional stage instruments, in a slim chassis designed for compact studio setups.
PHA-4 Keyboard & Controls
The A-88MKII prioritizes keyboard feel above all else. The PHA-4 keybed delivers weighted, graded action from heavy bass to light treble keys, with escapement that recreates the subtle "click" of a grand piano mechanism. Sensitivity and key response curves are adjustable to match your playing style.
Three configurable zones (Lower, Upper 1, Upper 2) let you layer and split the keyboard across different instruments or soft synths. An onboard arpeggiator and chord memory function add performance tools without relying on your DAW. Eight RGB-lit pads trigger commands and events, while eight RGB-lit knobs provide assignable real-time control over parameters in your software. A free control app for macOS and Windows lets you map every controller, set pad colors, and save configurations for instant recall via the Snap Shot function.
The A-88MKII connects over class-compliant USB-C with bus power, requiring only a single cable for both data and power. Standard 5-pin MIDI In and Out ports connect legacy hardware. Three pedal inputs (Damper, FC1, FC2) accept sustain pedals, expression pedals, and footswitches. The controller is MIDI 2.0 ready for forward compatibility as the standard evolves.
