Description

The Xylophone and Bass Marimba share similarities with the vibraphone but use wooden bars instead of aluminum. Each bar vibrates when struck with mallets and is paired with a metallic resonator tuned to amplify the sound.

The xylophone originated several thousand years ago in Africa and Southeast Asia, while the marimba appeared around the same time and has become a symbol of Guatemalan music. The bass marimba, with its large size, sounds more than two octaves below the xylophone. Both instruments are highly versatile, used in musical styles ranging from classical to Latin and rock.

Pianoteq’s virtual copies are modeled after a modern 3½-octave French xylophone and a modern 5-octave French bass marimba. Thanks to Pianoteq 9’s enhanced physical modeling, the instruments include multiple variants and feature the advanced humanization feature, which varies the strike point for a vivid, lifelike, and expressive performance. Refreshed Binaural presets ensure an immersive headphone experience, highlighting the spatial depth and resonance of each instrument.
