Pianos made to perfection
The SK-EX Concert Grand represents the pinnacle of Shigeru Kawai craftsmanship. Meticulously handcrafted in Ryuyo, Japan, by extraordinarily skilled artisans and prepared to perfection by Kawai's Master Piano Artisans, no more than 20 units are produced each year. Each piano delivers remarkable tonal richness, stunning responsiveness, and a nuanced dynamic spectrum.
An accurate model inspiring creativity
Modartt’s engineers developed a faithful physical model that captures the unique sound of the SK-EX, from the hand-wound temaki bass strings to the shimmering brilliance of the highest notes. With Pianoteq 9, the SK-EX benefits from the new audio engine, producing richer, evolving tones with enhanced spatial depth. The model is meticulously revoiced for expressive playing and features refreshed Binaural presets for immersive headphone experiences. The expressive "Sombre" presets provide silken, emotive tones ideal for cinematic and highly nuanced performances.

Modartt and KAWAI share a philosophy of continuous evolution toward musical excellence. The physical model is constantly refined, ensuring an inspiring playing and listening experience. Extensive listening sessions and adjustments have resulted in 15 unique configurations of microphones, room settings, and piano voicing, catering to a wide variety of musical styles and performance approaches.
