Description
The Modal Electronics Carbon8X is the 61-key version of the Carbon8, Modal's 8-voice experimental digital synthesizer, with a five-octave FATAR TP9/S keybed for two-handed playing. Each of its two oscillators offers 56 Core waveforms, made up of 18 digital algorithms and 38 wavetables, and the XCore modifiers reshape them with wave shaping, wave folding and phase distortion. The keys respond to velocity and channel aftertouch, MPE controllers are supported, and the free MODALapp editor covers every parameter on a computer, mobile device or inside your DAW.
Core Waveforms and XCore
Each oscillator picks from 56 Core waveforms in families such as hard sync, fold, PWM, window sync, pinch, squash, scrunch, alternate sync, de-rez, phase modulation, shaper and dual inverted, plus clocked noise and resonant types. The XCore modifiers then change the wave further with wave shaping, wave folding, phase distortion and other processes. Extended Oscillator Drift and a Vintage parameter are also available.
Filters and Modulation
The 34 resonant filters split into nine morphing types, including state variable, dual and ladder phaser filters, and 25 static ladder filters in lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, phaser and peaking shapes. Three envelopes, three audio-rate LFOs with variable pulse width and dual-rate ramp shapes, and a 12-slot modulation matrix drive the movement. The sequencer's four animation lanes record parameter changes with the notes, and two Carbon8X units can be poly-chained for 16 voices.
