Description
The Korg MicroKORG XL+ is an upgraded version of the MicroKORG XL, featuring an expanded sound set that adds a curated collection of vintage keyboard sounds to its MMT (Multiple Modeling Technology) synthesis engine. With 37 Natural Touch mini keys, 128 programs, eight-voice polyphony, a vocoder with included microphone, and a compact, portable form factor, the XL+ bridges the gap between classic analog-style synthesis and vintage electric piano, organ, and clav tones.
MMT Sound Engine
Multiple Modeling Technology combines virtual analog oscillators, PCM sample playback, and formant synthesis in a single architecture. Two oscillators per voice draw from analog waveform models, DWGS digital waveforms, and PCM samples of acoustic and electric instruments. A multimode resonant filter, dual envelopes, and two LFOs provide subtractive sculpting and modulation. The result is an engine that can move from aggressive analog leads to realistic electric pianos and organs within the same preset bank.
Vintage Keyboard Collection
The XL+ adds a library of vintage keyboard sounds not found on the standard XL. Classic electric pianos, tonewheel organs, clavinets, and string ensembles are included alongside the full range of analog modeling patches. These additions make the XL+ a versatile live keyboard that covers both synth and keys duties.
Vocoder and Performance
A 16-band vocoder analyzes audio from the included gooseneck microphone and applies it to the synthesis output. Formant shift controls and dedicated vocoder programs are provided. An arpeggiator with multiple patterns and a step sequencer function add rhythmic motion to performances.
