Description
The Golden Age Project COMP-554 MKII is the 500 Series version of the COMP-54 MKIII diode-bridge compressor, with extra routing and tone options for a lunchbox rack. The all-discrete Class-A path uses transformer-balanced input and output plus an interstage transformer. Stepped Threshold, Ratio, Attack, and Recovery (continuous Gain makeup) deliver 2254-style compression in a single 500 slot.
Sidechain, AIR, and Inserts
Three sidechain filter frequencies and three sidechain modes (Internal, Insert, External) cover bus and tracking work. External sidechain I/O is electronically balanced at +4 dBu on the right-slot rack connections. Dual insert connectors accept an EQ-573 in the audio and/or sidechain path. A three-position AIR EQ switch offers Flat, +3 dB, or +6 dB at 30 kHz. Separate hardwire bypass and compression OUT switches, stereo link, dual-reference output metering (+4 / +12 dBu), a two-position output termination switch, and soft-start power ramp complete the module. Transformers are prepared for Carnhill upgrade.
