Description
The Genelec 8381A is a large-format multi-way SAM main monitor system — the ultimate expression of Genelec's point-source coaxial philosophy scaled to cinema and immersive audio dimensions. It combines three 381 mm bass drivers, five 127 mm midrange drivers, and a coaxially-mounted 25 mm tweeter powered by dual RAM-81 amplifier modules delivering nearly 12kW of total power. The result is 126 dB of output with extension to 20 Hz — sufficient for the largest dubbing stages, scoring rooms, and immersive audio facilities.
Acoustic Design
- Point-source architecture: All midrange and HF energy radiates from a single coaxial point, eliminating comb filtering and providing precise imaging regardless of listener position
- Triple bass section: Three 381 mm (15") drivers in a massive enclosure provide extension to 20 Hz with 126 dB peak SPL
- Five midrange drivers: Array of 127 mm (5") drivers provides controlled, high-output midrange reproduction
- Coaxial HF: 25 mm tweeter mounted coaxially within the midrange array
- Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW): Controls directivity for accurate imaging in very large rooms
SAM (Smart Active Monitoring)
Fully integrated with GLM calibration software for automated room correction. The system's dual RAM-81 amplifier modules provide individual channel control and DSP, with GLM network connectivity for system-wide management of level, delay, and room EQ.
