The EAW MK8196z is a highly versatile and compact passive loudspeaker that sets a new standard in installation performance, offering exceptional sound quality and advanced features for a variety of applications. Designed for small to medium-sized venues, this 300W 8-inch 2-way loudspeaker delivers impressive audio performance in both commercial and residential environments, such as houses of worship, corporate AV systems, auditoriums, and theaters. The MK8196z features a 90° horizontal x 60° vertical nominal beamwidth, providing broad and even coverage throughout the listening area.
The MK8196z features an advanced design that overcomes the common issues found in traditional compact two-way systems. Despite its small size, it outperforms many larger loudspeakers due to the integration of features. The HF horn is loaded with a 1-inch exit, 1.5-inch voice coil compression driver, which is larger than those found in most traditional compact two-way horns. This enables better pattern control and extends the control of the horn's pattern lower into the midrange, where it overlaps with the woofer's pattern, ensuring seamless integration across the critical crossover area.
The loudspeaker utilizes a beamwidth-matching crossover point, optimizing the transition between the subsystems. This ensures that the HF horn's 120° horizontal by 60° vertical coverage pattern aligns with the woofer's pattern, eliminating the off-axis voids commonly found in traditional systems. The internal passive crossover/filter network uses complex, asymmetrical slopes for equalization, further smoothing the power response and ensuring a clean, balanced output. The MK8196z is designed to be powered by a single amplifier channel, making setup simple and straightforward without compromising on sound quality.
The MK8196z provides a maximum SPL of 130 dB (12 dB crest factor) and 124 dB (6 dB crest factor), delivering audio performance across a wide frequency range, from 65Hz to 19kHz. It is built with a user-rotatable horn, allowing the enclosure to be mounted vertically or horizontally for greater flexibility and ease of installation.
