Description
The Blackstar Sonnet 120 is a 120-watt acoustic combo for players and singers who run an acoustic guitar and a vocal mic through one amp on stage. It has two matching channels, each with a combination XLR and 1/4" input, +48 V phantom power, its own EQ, an anti-feedback control and a reverb level. An 8-inch speaker and two tweeters in a ported cabinet cover the full range of a pickup-equipped acoustic, and each channel has its own XLR D.I. output for the front-of-house mixer. This Blonde version is finished in cream with a copper-colored grille and matching control panel.
Two Full Channels
Each channel has a gain control with built-in dynamics processing that smooths harsh peaks as the gain goes up, a Shape switch that adds a mid cut with a lift in the lows and highs, three-band EQ, a sweepable notch for low-frequency feedback, a phase switch and a -10 dB pad. Four reverb types (Hall, Studio, Chamber and Plate) share a reverb time control. A high-pass filter and a Brilliance control set the low end and the top end of the whole amp.
Stage and Recording Connections
On the back, each channel has an effects loop and a balanced XLR D.I. output with a pre or post EQ switch, and a third XLR sends the mix, with a ground lift for hum. USB audio connects to a computer with no extra drivers, and Blackstar's free RecRoute software records either a mix of both channels with reverb or the two channels dry on separate left and right tracks. Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm line input carry backing tracks, and the FS-17 footswitch (sold separately) mutes the amp or switches the reverb off. A screw-out tilt-back stand angles the amp up as a monitor, and the optional SA-2 adaptor mounts it on a 35 mm speaker stand.
