Description
The Blackstar Polar Go is a pocket-size USB-C audio interface and stereo recorder for musicians, podcasters, streamers and content creators who record on a phone or a computer. Built-in ProCapture stereo microphones record with no cables at all, a combo XLR/1/4-inch input with +48 V phantom power takes a microphone or an instrument, and a rechargeable battery lets it run away from a wall outlet. The free Polar Go app for iOS and Android sets the levels, effects and presets.
Phone or Computer
Polar Go plugs into a phone over USB-C and works with GarageBand, BandLab and the other audio apps on it. On a Mac it needs no driver, and on Windows it uses the Blackstar ASIO driver, so it also records into DAWs such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One and FL Studio. A second USB-C port charges the battery, and the metal base holds the unit on magnetic stands and accessories for hands-free use. iPhones with a Lightning port need a Lightning-to-USB adapter that carries data, sold separately.
App Control and Processing
The app sets gain for the combo input and the built-in mics, shapes the mics with Body and Clarity EQ, adds Space reverb, and turns on Magic Wand, an auto-enhance mode that adjusts several settings to suit the chosen preset. Presets cover vocals, guitar, podcasts, ambient recording and a flat setting, and your own settings save to the unit. Multitrack Mode sends each input to its own USB channel for editing later, USB Loopback mixes playback audio with the live inputs for streaming, and the Camera tab records video with Polar Go audio.
