Description
The Blackstar DA100 Ruby is a 100-watt valve guitar head designed with Doug Aldrich, whose career runs through Whitesnake, Dio and The Dead Daisies. Doug had played a Blackstar HT Stage 100 MK III on stage since February 2023, and the DA100 comes from a year of changes he and Blackstar made to that amp. It runs two ECC83 preamp valves and four EL34 power valves, offers three footswitchable channels with six voices, and ships with a 5-way footcontroller.
Channels and Voices
The clean channel switches between an American voice, bright with a solid low end, and a British voice with looser bass and warmer mids that breaks up when pushed. Two hot-rodded Plexi-style overdrive channels share one Bass, Middle and Treble section, and each has a classic and a modern voice. Blackstar's patented ISF control moves the EQ between a US and a UK response, and the amp recalls the last voice used on each channel.
Recording and Live Control
CabRig speaker emulation feeds a balanced XLR output and a stereo line out that doubles as a headphone jack, with three Doug Aldrich presets on a rear-panel switch. Both outputs stay live in standby for silent recording or practice. The USB-C port sends four channels to a computer at once and connects to Blackstar's Architect software for deeper editing. A power switch drops the output to 10 percent, and the footswitchable effects loop has adjustable tail lengths so delays and reverbs ring out after the loop turns off.
