Description
The MPC Live III Limited Retro Edition is Akai Professional's flagship standalone production center in a colorway drawn from the original MPC machines of the late 1980s. Beneath the classic beige and dark Akai finish you get the same Gen 2 hardware, MPC3 OS, and MPC3 Pro Pack as the standard MPC Live III: sampling, sequencing, clip performance, and mixing without a computer, with built-in speakers, microphone, and battery for work anywhere inspiration hits.
Classic Retro Design
This limited edition nods to the era when Roger Linn's MPC60 introduced the 4x4 rubber pad grid that defined beatmaking, and when the MPC3000 pushed sampling into 16-bit workflows that shaped hip-hop and electronic music for decades. The Retro palette recalls those machines before the line moved to all-black enclosures: a collector-facing finish with no compromise to the modern MPC Live III feature set.
Standalone Production Power
- Processor & memory: Gen 2 8-core CPU (about 4x the MPC Live II), 8 GB RAM, and 128 GB onboard storage for up to 32 plug-in instances and 16 audio tracks at once.
- MPC3 OS & Pro Pack: Super Timestretch, Pro Stems Separation, Clip Matrix workflow, Ableton Live set import, and premium AIR plug-ins included from the factory.
- All-in-one rig: Discrete stereo studio monitors, studio-quality onboard mic, rechargeable battery (up to about 4 hours), and a 7" multi-touch display with four touch-capacitive knobs.
- Content: About 30 GB of factory sounds, 24 synth engines, and 15 MPC expansions to start producing immediately.
MPCe Pads & Hands-On Control
Sixteen full-size RGB MPCe pads use 3D-sensing technology for velocity, pressure, and X/Y positional control. Blend samples, trigger dynamic note repeats, and shape articulations per pad for expressive finger drumming and performance. A dedicated row of 16 step-sequencer buttons lets you program beats without reaching for the touchscreen, and an assignable touch strip adds modulation and performance control on the fly.
Connectivity
- Inputs: 2 x XLR/TRS combo inputs with mic preamps for vocals, instruments, and line sources.
- Outputs: 6 line outputs plus 8 CV/gate outputs for modular and analog gear.
- MIDI: 2 bi-directional MIDI ports; Multi-MIDI supports up to 32 connected devices.
- USB-C: Class-compliant 24-channel audio I/O and 32-channel bi-directional MIDI; Ableton Control Mode; direct iPhone sampling.
- Wireless: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth file transfer; Ableton Link for sync with other hardware and apps.
