About Studio One

Studio One is a cross-platform digital audio workstation published by PreSonus Audio Electronics, a Fender company based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Development began in 2004 as a collaboration between PreSonus and KristalLabs, a Hamburg startup founded by former Steinberg developers Wolfgang Kundrus and Matthias Juwan who built early versions of Cubase and Nuendo. The DAW shipped in 2009 with a single-window, drag-and-drop workflow that eliminated the multi-window clutter of older platforms. A dedicated Project page lets you master inside the same application where you mixed, no export and re-import required. Studio One Pro 7 added AI-powered stem separation and Splice integration. In January 2026, Fender rebranded the Pro tier as Fender Studio Pro 8, and all PreSonus accounts migrated to MyFender.

Studio One Pro

The Pro tier gives you the full feature set: unlimited tracks, advanced editing tools, the Project mastering page, and a suite of bundled virtual instruments and effects. Studio One Pro 7 introduced Deep Flight One, a virtual instrument built into the platform, alongside AI stem separation that pulls vocals, drums, bass, and other elements from mixed audio. Fender Studio Pro 8 continues that lineage under the new brand. The workflow centers on drag-and-drop: drop a plugin onto a track, drop an audio file into the arrange window, drop a mastering preset onto the Project page. You spend less time navigating menus and more time working.

Studio One Artist

Artist is the entry-level paid version. You get the core recording, editing, and mixing engine with a smaller plugin bundle and no Project page. Track count is unlimited. Most third-party plugins work without restriction. Artist suits project studios and home producers who plan to master elsewhere or who want to add their own plugin collection over time. You can upgrade to Pro later if you need the mastering tools or the expanded instrument library. The single-window interface and drag-and-drop workflow are identical to Pro.
