MusicLab has been developing music software since 1992, and in 2004 released RealGuitar, the first in a long-running series of sample-based virtual guitar instruments designed for keyboard players. The 'Real' series lets you perform acoustic and electric guitar parts from a MIDI controller using modelled articulations, strumming logic, and fret-position algorithms. Instead of triggering loops, you play the instrument: chord voicings, picking patterns, slides, and hammer-ons respond to your input in real time. Each plugin models a specific classic guitar, from Stratocasters and Les Pauls to Rickenbackers and Telecasters, capturing the tonal character and playing mechanics of the original.

The 'Real' Series Virtual Guitars

The core lineup includes RealGuitar 6, RealStrat 6, RealLPC 6, RealRick 6, and RealTele, each built around a different iconic guitar. RealGuitar 6 pairs the original 'Classic' sample set with a new 'Steel String' library offering five patches and three tunings. RealStrat 6 focuses on the Stratocaster's single-coil clarity, while RealLPC 6 delivers the thick midrange of a Les Paul. RealRick 6 captures the jangle of a Rickenbacker, and RealTele brings the snap and twang of a Telecaster. Each instrument includes multiple articulations, alternate tunings, and performance modes tailored to the guitar's playing style.

RealEight 6 extends the range down to eight strings for modern metal and progressive styles, with palm mutes, chugs, and low-end articulations suited to extended-range playing. RealGMS is a multi-guitar suite that combines several models in one plugin, letting you switch between acoustic, electric, and bass guitars without loading separate instruments. Both tools use the same performance engine as the rest of the series, so the learning curve stays flat once you know one.
