The Roland SP-404MKII is the latest evolution of the legendary SP sampler series, refined through years of community feedback into the ultimate portable beatmaking instrument. It delivers 16 GB of internal storage, 17 velocity-sensitive RGB pads, a vivid OLED display with waveform editing, and an expanded roster of classic and new effects for performance-based production anywhere.

The SP-404MKII builds on the distinctive lo-fi character and rapid workflow that made its predecessors icons of hip-hop, electronic, and experimental music. Its 32-voice polyphony and 160 samples per project provide expanded programming possibilities, while blazing-fast boot times and low-latency pads keep the creative flow uninterrupted. Classic SP effects like Vinyl Simulator and DJFX Looper are joined by Lo-fi, Cassette Simulator, and Resonator, with Bus FX for layering multiple effects through customizable signal routing. Skip Back Sampling captures up to 40 seconds of your last performance, and Loop Capture lets you record, loop, and layer in real time. The pattern sequencer supports both real-time loop recording and TR-REC step input, with per-bank BPM and pattern chaining for full song creation. A built-in Sound Generator creates mono synth basslines and melodic phrases. Native Serato DJ integration, Koala Sampler connectivity, and a standalone editor app (macOS/Windows, AU/VST3 plug-in) extend its capabilities further. The detachable metal faceplate accepts custom overlays for personalization.
