Description

The Korg MiniKORG 700SM is a faithful recreation of the 1973 miniKORG 700S, one of the earliest Japanese synthesizers and a foundational instrument in Korg's history. This modern reissue preserves the all-analog signal path of the original while adding carefully chosen enhancements: spring reverb, an arpeggiator, MIDI, USB, and sync connectivity. Premium build quality and a dedicated wood-sided enclosure pay tribute to the craftsmanship of the 1970s original.

Analog Signal Path

Two voltage-controlled oscillators generate the raw waveforms, with VCO1 offering sawtooth, square, and chorus variations, and VCO2 providing additional pitch and detuning options for thick unison and interval tones. The Traveler dual-filter section is a hallmark of the original design: a low-pass filter and a high-pass filter work in tandem via a single slider that sweeps the two cutoff frequencies toward each other, creating vowel-like formant effects and band-pass characteristics. A separate resonance low-pass filter adds classic self-oscillating sweep capabilities.

Modern Additions

Spring reverb adds authentic analog ambience directly in the signal path. A new arpeggiator provides rhythmic pattern generation with multiple modes and tempo control. These additions expand the instrument's range while respecting the character of the original circuit.

Connectivity

MIDI In allows external sequencing and keyboard control. USB provides a direct digital connection for DAW integration. Sync input and output jacks enable tempo synchronization with other Korg instruments and modular gear.
