About Epiphone
Epiphone has been building guitars since 1873, and since 1957 they've operated as Gibson's sister brand. That relationship gives them access to Gibson's designs, hardware specs, and quality control standards, but at price points that make iconic shapes accessible to working musicians. Epiphone guitars are built primarily in Asia using the same tonewoods and construction methods as their Gibson counterparts. The Les Paul Standard, SG Standard, and Casino are staples in studios and on stages across Canada. You get the body shape, the pickup configuration, and the playability of guitars that defined rock, blues, and jazz, without the four-figure price tag.
Les Paul Models
The Epiphone Les Paul line covers everything from the Standard and Custom to the Studio and Special models. These are single-cutaway mahogany body guitars with carved maple tops, set necks, and dual humbucker pickups. The Standard uses ProBucker pickups voiced to match Gibson's classic PAF tone. The Custom adds gold hardware and multi-ply binding. If you want that thick, sustaining Les Paul sound for recording or gigging, these guitars deliver it. The weight, the neck profile, and the tonal response are all there.
SG and Hollow Body Guitars
The SG Standard is Epiphone's take on Gibson's double-cutaway design from 1961. Lighter than a Les Paul, with easier access to the upper frets. It's a rock guitar, plain and simple. The Casino is a fully hollow body with P-90 pickups, the same model the Beatles used in the studio and on the rooftop. It's bright, articulate, and feeds back in all the right ways when you push it. The Sheraton and Riviera are semi-hollow models with humbuckers, built for jazz, blues, and anything that needs warmth and clarity.
Acoustic and Bass Models
Epiphone's acoustic line includes dreadnoughts, slope-shoulder models, and parlor guitars. The Hummingbird and Dove are based on Gibson's square-shoulder designs from the 1960s. The Masterbilt series uses solid wood construction and vintage-inspired bracing patterns. On the bass side, the Thunderbird and EB-0 are short-scale models with single or dual pickups. They're built for players who want that classic Gibson bass tone without the vintage price or the weight of older instruments.
