universal-audio-mic-ua251
Universal Audio Bock 251 Tube Condenser Microphone

The Universal Audio Bock 251 is UA's flagship large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone, designed by David Bock after the classic ELAM 251 and built by hand at the UA Custom Shop in Santa Cruz, California. A German-made CK12-type capsule, a Cinemag output transformer and a new old stock ECC85 tube give it low-frequency response down to 10 Hz and higher SPL handling than a vintage 251. It is made for vocals and musical instruments.

Three Switchable Patterns

A switch on the mic body selects cardioid, omni or figure-8. The UA badge marks the front of this side-address mic, and the black part of the headbasket marks the rear. The mic runs from its own UA Bock 251 power supply over the included six-pin Tuchel cable and does not need phantom power.

Features

Large-diaphragm tube condenser, handmade at the UA Custom Shop in Santa Cruz, California

German-made dual-diaphragm CK12-type capsule with dual asymmetrical backplate

Cinemag output transformer and new old stock ECC85 tube

Switchable cardioid, omni and figure-8 patterns

Low-frequency response down to 10 Hz

Apollo Channel Strip presets available through UA Connect

Specifications

Type: Large-diaphragm tube condenser, side address

Polar patterns: Cardioid, omni, figure-8 (switch on the mic)

Capsule: 1" dual-diaphragm CK12 type, dual asymmetrical backplate

Tube: New old stock ECC85

Frequency range: 10 Hz to 18 kHz, ±2 dB

Sensitivity: -34 dB (19 mV) re 1 V at 1 Pa, 1 kHz

Self-noise: 18 dBA

Maximum SPL: 118 dB SPL at 1% THD

Dynamic range: 100 dB

Signal-to-noise ratio: 76 dB

Output impedance: 150 ohms (recommended load above 1.2 kohms)

Connectors: Tuchel (mic), 3-pin XLR (power supply output)

Power supply: UA Bock 251 PSU, 100, 115 or 230 V AC, factory set for the region

Dimensions: 8.5" (216 mm) long, 2" (52 mm) diameter

Microphone weight: 1.58 lbs (716 g)

Shipping weight: 12 lbs (5.4 kg)

In the Box

UA Bock 251 microphone

UA Bock 251 PSU power supply

Six-pin Tuchel cable

Shock mount

Vintage-style suitcase
