dynaudio-m4-mkii
Dynaudio M4 MkII 4-Way Main Monitor

The Dynaudio Acoustics M4 MkII is a 4-way main monitor for large music recording and mixing rooms. Four 300 mm MSP woofers carry the bass, two 170 mm MSP drivers cover the low mids, and an Esotar soft dome and the Esotar 3 tweeter handle the upper mids and highs. A stereo pair reaches 130 dB at 2 meters with distortion held to 1% at 90 dB.

Drivers and Crossover

The woofers use 100 mm ferrofluid-cooled voice coils and run as two pairs, each pair on its own amplifier channel. The low-mid drivers have 75 mm voice coils and neodymium magnets, and both Esotar units use double-magnet motors. External crossovers split the signal at 250 Hz and 2 kHz, and a high-power passive network in the cabinet joins the upper mid and tweeter at 5 kHz.

Amplification and Installation

The M4 MkII has no built-in amplifiers. Each speaker takes four channels of 500 to 1,000 W, and Dynaudio recommends its DA40/80 DSP or DCA800/1400 amplifiers. The cabinet is usually flush-mounted in a wall, which adds low-frequency output, and it can also stand free. Dynaudio gives 2 to 6 meters as the listening distance and recommends that a qualified engineer carry out the final alignment.

Features

4-way hybrid design for large control rooms

Four 300 mm MSP woofers with 100 mm ferrofluid-cooled voice coils

Two 170 mm MSP low-mid drivers with neodymium magnets

Esotar soft-dome upper midrange and Esotar 3 tweeter with double-magnet motors

130 dB maximum SPL at 2 m from a stereo pair

Flush-mount or free-standing installation

4 mm binding posts

Specifications

Type: 4-way hybrid, external amplification

Application: Music recording and mixing

Frequency response: 35 Hz to 20 kHz

Maximum SPL: 130 dB at 2 m (stereo)

Crossover frequencies: 250 Hz, 2 kHz, 5 kHz

Total harmonic distortion: 1% at 90 dB

Tweeter: Esotar 3

Upper midrange: Esotar soft dome

Low midrange: 2 x 170 mm MSP

Woofers: 4 x 300 mm MSP

Impedance: LF 2 x 4 ohms, LMF 4 ohms, MF/HF 4 ohms

Recommended amplifier power: Four channels per speaker, 500 to 1,000 W per channel

Amplifier recommendation: Dynaudio Acoustics DA40/80 DSP, DCA800/1400

Connectors: 4 mm binding posts

Dimensions (H x W x D): 900 x 850 x 680 mm (35.4 x 33.5 x 26.8 in)

Weight: 145 kg (320 lb)

Finish: Black textured paint
